EADS is already a Premium partner of Ecole Centrale Paris and is involved in education and research projects in Ecole´s Centrale network. The new partnership with ECPk has two goals: to pool talents and specialists catering the company’sneed in China and secondly, is to further increase research cooperation. This partnership also allows EADS to involve Chinese PhD students in research projectsand EADS will have access to a new joint research technology center.
“China is a strategically important market for EADS and this is evident by our existing operations”, said CTO Jean Botti. “Promoting increased cooperation at the educational level makes sense and the Ecole Centrale de Pekin can support us to achieve this goal.”
Jean Dorey, Director of ECPk, stated: “EADS is constantly developing its activities in the Chinese market and Ecole Centrale de Pékin graduates can bring the group the talents it requires to tackle the intercultural challenges it has to face. Also, the strong aeronautical background our students can acquire through both BUAA and Ecoles Centrales know-how in this domain will be precious to EADS. And beyond training high level engineers, we already began working on research projects together with EADS.”
École Centrale de Pekin is one of the Centrale Graduate Schools known as the “Intergroupe des écoles centrales” network with its sister institutions (Paris, Lyon, Lille, Nantes, Marseille). École Centrale Paris, the oldest institution in this network, is a French university-level institution (“grande école”) in the field of engineering. Founded in 1829, it is one of the most prestigious engineering schools in France.
École Centrale de Pekin was opened in 2005. EADS and its predecessor companies have been active in China for decades. Over the years the group has set up numerous joint-ventures and expanded its presence in the country through industrial partnerships. Among the most high profile initiatives are Airbus' single-aisle Final Assembly Line in Tianjin and Eurocopter's partnership with China Aeronautics Industries Group Corp. (AVIC) for the development of the EC175 helicopter.
EADS has established a global research and technology network called Innovation Works. In addition to primary locations at Munich and Paris, it also has branches in Getafe, Spain; Newport, U.K.; Toulouse and Nantes, France; Hamburg, Germany; Singapore; Bangalore, India and Moscow, Russia. Altogether, the EADS InnovationWorks international network employs more than 600 people.
